Univerza v Ljubljani je bila ustanovljena leta 1919. Danes jo sestavlja 26 članic, od tega 22 fakultet, 3 umetniške akademije in 1 visoka šola, ki omogočajo raznovrstne študije na dodiplomski in podiplomski ravni.

Na Univerzi v Ljubljani študira več kot 70.000 študentov, 3690 učiteljev pa poučuje in opravlja raziskovalno delo.

Več kot 30 podpisanih meduniverzitetnih sporazumov in številni medfakultetni sporazumi omogočajo sodelovanje članicam univerze s sorodnimi tujimi institucijami. Poleg njih ima ljubljanska univerza podpisanih tudi 420 pogodb Socrates Erasmus – vsako leto študira v Ljubljani okoli 300 tujih študentov in učiteljev, na univerze po Evropski uniji pa odide na gostovanje 540 študentov in 70 učiteljev.

V projektu Evropske unije Lingua Slavic Network sodelujejo sodelavci s Centra za slovenščino kot drugi / tuji jezik, ki deluje pri Oddelku za slovenistiko na Filozofski fakulteti Univerze v Ljubljani. Center za slovenščino širi vedenje o slovenskem jeziku, literaturi in kulturi v mednarodnem okviru, spodbuja mednarodno slovenistično raziskovanje, organizira strokovna in znanstvena srečanja ter razvija celotno infrastrukturo za doseganje, preverjanje in potrjevanje znanja slovenščine kot drugega ali tujega jezika na slovenski nacionalni ravni. V preteklih letih so sodelavci Centra za sodelovanje pri evropskih projektih prejeli dve Evropski jezikovni priznanji.

Center za slovenščino se nahaja v glavni stavbi Univerze v Ljubljani.

The University of Ljubljana was established in 1919. Today it consists of 26 members – 22 faculties, 3 art academies and a university college make diverse studies possible on graduate and post-graduate level. The University of Ljubljana has over 70,000 students and 3690 teaching and research staff.

More than 30 signed international agreements and numerous inter-faculty agreements enable the University members to cooperate with similar foreign institutions. In addition, the University has signed 420 Socrates Erasmus contracts – about 300 foreign students and teachers take part in exchange studies in Ljubljana each year, while 540 students and 70 teachers from Slovenia do the same in universities all over the European Union.

The European Union Lingua Slavic Network project involves partners from the Centre for Slovene as a Second/Foreign Language, which works under the auspices of the Department of Slovene Studies at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana.

The Centre extends understanding of the Slovene language, literature and culture on an international scale. It also encourages international research in Slovene language and literature, organises professional and scientific conferences and develops the complete infrastructure for attaining, examining and certifying proficiency in Slovene as a second/foreign language. Collaborators of the Centre have received two European language awards for their participation in European projects in the past few years.
